Royal palace (Castle) (Gödöllő)

The palace is one of the largest baroque castles of Hungary. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century and is also called Grassalkovich castle because of the first occupant, who was a confidant of Maria Theresia. The palace has been especially confessed as the summer palace of empress Elisabeth (Sissi) and emperor Francis Joseph. The empress stayed here frequently to search for a rest and just to be out of the hectics at the court in Vienna. The palace knows a museum in which a lot of chambers still look as these by Sissi has been known. Moreover there is still the baroque theater and in the garden still stands a pavilion, this one has been rebuilt and inside one can see the portraits of all leaders and kings of Hungary (unfortunately not original).
