István Dobó castle museum

Miskolc • Castles

The fortress of Eger is one of the most visited attractions in Hungary. This fortress was constructed around 1248 around a romantic cathedral. It was subsequently expanded, the cathedral has disappeared and there was a bishop's castle. The castle is famous by the attack of the Turks in 1552 that the 2000 residents crows with the genius of the defenders (can be read in the book The Stars of Eger). It is now on display in the 3D cinema. Within the fort is a museum which shows the history of the castle, a money museum, a gallery with work from Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria and Italy, the underground passages (with tour), a wax museum where the stars are drawn and the massive sarcophagus of István Dobó and an exhibition of weapons and folk art and dress. In season there are many events. Fun for the kids.
